How it works

Why a big number calculator?

Most scientific and graphing calculators show roughly 10 decimal digits of accuracy. That is fine daily, but limiting for cosmology, astronomy, cryptography, statistical mechanics, and large combinatorial counts. Big-number tools keep far more digits of exact integers and long decimal expansions. Everyday big quantities include hard-disk bit counts, cells in the body, Avogadro’s number, atoms in the observable universe, and combinatorial tallies. Special ultra-large notations (Knuth up-arrows, Conway chains) exist for numbers beyond ordinary powers of ten — but ordinary scientific and programming work still benefits from multi-digit BigInt/Decimal arithmetic.

Accepted formats and operations

Formats: integers, decimals, and scientific E-notation (23E18, 3.5e19). Commas and underscores in integers are ignored. Operations: X+Y, X−Y, X×Y, X/Y, X^Y, √X, X², X!, MOD, GCD, LCM. Precision sets how many digits after the decimal appear for non-integer results (for example 1÷3). Exact integer results show every digit. Factorial needs n ≤ 2000 for this tool; GCD and LCM require integers.

Named powers of ten

Large numbers are often stated as powers of 10 with short-scale names — billion (10⁹), trillion (10¹²), …, googol (10¹⁰⁰), centillion (10³⁰³), and googolplex (10^googol). The table below lists common names used in English short scale.
